Nepal - a peaceful kingdom nestled in the Great Himalayan range includes the
highest mountain in the world Mt. Everest. Nepal a vast landscape diversity, the
birth place of the Buddha, is rich in culture with unique traditions, Hidden
until 1950s from the rest of the world, it is basically a mountainous country.
It is incomparable in natural beauty. The Himalayas once the abode of many Gods,
Pilgrimages for the great Sadhus and saints is now open attraction for all those
who look for peace & rest, natural wilderness, unique experience and adventure.
Geography: Nepal
borders with the Tibet autonomous region of China to the north and India to the
west, south and east. The total area is 147,181-sq. km. The Geographic diversity
is so amazingly vast as the altitude ranges from 60 km. above sea level to
8,848-m.The summit of the Sagarmatha ( Mt. Everest ). The landscape grows
gradually higher towards the north from Siwalik to Mahabharat Hills average 3,
000 m. to the towering mountains of the Himalayas . Small beautiful valleys are
nestled among these hills.
Getting to Nepal:
Kathmandu - the capital city of Nepal is linked by air with major cities
such as Delhi , Bombay , Dhaka , Karachi , Dubai , Hong Kong, Lhasa , Bangkok ,
Singapore , Japan and European cities - Frankfurt and London . The airlines
operating flight services to Kathmandu are Royal Nepal Airlines, Indian
Airlines, Bangladesh Biman, Thai Airways, China Airlines Qatar Airlines, Gulf
Air, Austrian Air and Dragon Air. Overland journey to Nepal is via India from
south and via Tibet from the north.
Climate: The
variation of its topography has a great impact on its climate. The southern,
Terai region lies in the tropical part of the country which has a hot and humid
climate where entire region has a typical sub tropical climate, it is pleasant
all year round although, the winter nights can be chilly but in the day time
sunny. The Himalayan region about 4000 meters has an alpine climate. It has
considerable lower temperature in the winter though, its position on a
relatively lower northern altitude makes it possible to have plenty of sun
during the day.
We have four distinct climate seasons in Nepal (1)
March-May (spring) (2) June-August (summer) (3) September - November (autumn)
(4) December - February (winter)
Religion and Culture:
The major religions of this Kingdom are Hinduism and Buddhism and a very small
percentage of Muslims, Christians and Jains live in Nepal . The peaceful co -
existence and tolerance among the different religions is a remarkable feature of
Nepal . Hindus, Buddhists, Muslims, Jains, Christians and other are represented
by majestic temples of exquisite and artistic architecture of Nepal. Nepal is
famous for its temples, Shrines, woodcarvings, metal-works and its ceramics.
The People: Nepal
has a population of about 20 million which consists of different ethnic groups,
races and tribes. They are mainly derived from Indo Aryans, Tibetans, Mongolians
and Tibeto Burmese origins. They are divided into having ethical groups and
living in different regions having different costumes and speaking many
languages and dialects. The Indo-Aryan people have been found mostly in The
Tarai and l over Mountain regions where Mongolians and Tibeto Burmese are found
in up to the valleys and mid-Himalayan ranges 3000 meters. The Tibeto Burmese
people are found mostly in the Himalayan regions. All of them are known by
different names such as Gurungs, Tamangs, Magars, Rais, Limbhus, Sherpas, Newars,
Tharus, Yadavas, Rajbhangsi, Brahmins, Chettris, Thakuris, Ranas etc. They are
proud of being Nepali. The average density of people is 123 per sq. Average life
expectation is 54.02 years and average birth rate 2.47 per annum, infant
mortality birth 107 per thousand.
Tourism: Though
tourism in Nepal started only from 1960s,it has been a favorite holiday
destination for westerners and other Asian people. Nepal is a paradise in its
natural beauties. The Travelers want peace, wilderness and nature are attracted
to the country. Especially mountaineers and other adventurers who like the great
challenge of the Himalayas, a week is never enough. Most of the people want to
visit Nepal again and again.
Visa: Royal
Nepalese Embassy or Consulates aboard provide a one-month visa to visitors of
any nationalities. Those visitors arrived without visa may get a two-month entry
visa at Tribhuvan International Airport on arrival or at any entry point at a
payment of US. $ 30, and equivalent in other Currencies.
